At first sight the Bougarabou and the Djembe appear very similar. The Bogarabou is also equiped with a simple and easily applied rope system for tuning the drum without difficulty. The strings are pre-stretched which acounts for the durability of the correct tone. This tall thin drum originates from the south of Senegal and the Gambia and is used during their celebrations.Th- e form and the cow skin covering help generate the warm and resonant sound which reminds one of the Conga. The scale of tones ranges from deep, resonant bass to the high Conga-like tones. The sharp snapping sounds of the Bongos or Djembes can not be associated with the Bougarabou at all. The singing, round tones have a meditative effect, allowing the hands to play of their own accord. drums, drum, djembe, african drum, african drum, kpanlogo, bogarabou, djembe drum |
